Vincent O’FlahertyProfessor of Microbiology at NUI Galway
Professor O’Flaherty has over 25 years of experience in the area of biofilm and microbial ecology research and formed part of the NUIG technology development partners, a well-respected, highly successful research group who have previously been acknowledged by a Science Foundation Ireland international expert panel as the leading international group in the field of low-temperature anaerobic digestion.
Professor O’Flaherty, the co-inventor of the technology, works in close collaboration with NVP Energy to continually develop the technology to ensure maximum efficiency.
Professor O’Flaherty’s research focuses on anaerobic biofilm reactor technology for bio-refining, energy production and wastewater treatment; the microbial ecology of biofilms and the control of biofilm-mediated infections. Over the course of his research, Professor O’Flaherty has published over 300 scientific communications, including 95 papers in leading international, peer-reviewed journals.
Professor O’Flaherty received his undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Science, Microbiology, and Ph.D. from the National University of Ireland, Galway.
