NVP Energy’s unique technology is ideally suited to treating wastewater from the distilling industry due to the high concentrations of organic material in wastewater which enables the production of large amounts of biogas available for reuse on-site and can achieve up to 80% removal of organic constituents. The technology treats wastewater at ambient temperatures and can even treat wastewater as low as 4°C meaning there is no heat input required.
The distillation process involves the separation of the substance from the liquid through selective evaporation and condensation resulting in the production of spirits. For every litre of ethanol produced from distilling there can be up to 15 times that amount of spent water from the process. This wastewater is characterised as having an extremely high COD and BOD content due to the high concentration of organic material present in the water. This high concentration of organic material is ideally suited to NVP Energy’s technology and results in the production of biogas with up to 80% methane content.
